Migdalia Torres, LCSW-R

Migdalia Torres, Executive Director of Program & Offsite Expansion at Gilda’s Club New York City, is a licensed clinical social worker.  For 25 years, Gilda’s Club New York City has provided free psychosocial support to anyone impacted by cancer. Ms. Torres’s role as ED provides direct leadership and oversight of Gilda’s Club’s goal to assure that its program services of education and psychosocial support reach into some of the most undeserved neighborhoods of New York City, including East Flatbush, Brooklyn; Flushing, Queens; East Harlem and the South Bronx.

Ms. Torres has been instrumental in developing and maintaining an offsite expansion model that has successfully engaged major cancer centers in partnering with Gilda’s Club in providing cancer support to their patients at their sites.  This expansion model, Gilda Comes to You, has proven to be fiscally responsible and strategically efficient in reaching more New Yorkers living with cancer. Currently, 39% of Gilda’s Club’s participants utilize our program through an offsite partner. Ms. Torres’s leadership has been instrumental in the exponential growth of the program and membership.
Ms. Torres received her master’s degree in social work from Fordham University in 1997.  Prior to obtaining her degree in social work, she received her undergraduate degree in marketing from Pace University in 1986.

For the past 23 years, Ms. Torres has focused her clinical career working with the chronically ill—specifically cancer and dementia populations.  For the past 18 years she has provided individual, family and group psychotherapy.  She has worked in organizations such as the Jewish Board of Family and Children Services; Silverstein Aging and Dementia Research Center; and Gilda’s Club New York City.  Ms. Torres has obtained training in providing culturally competent psychosocial support to multicultural populations.  She is fluent in Spanish.

Ms. Torres was born and raised in New York City.  She resides in Jersey City, NJ, with her husband and their Morkie.
